Radishes

Betty eagerly watches as plants come up in the Square Foot Garden. She has harvested about a half dozen radishes, but none have been larger than a grape. There is one square that has white radishes. She leaves them alone because she says they are too hot.

I can't believe that Betty is really harvesting these vegetables before they are ready!

The rain we've had has really given the garden a boost. Almost every square has something in it now. One even has a rodent coming up! I glad though, that the local herd of dear have not yet discovered the garden.

Usually the white radishes are less picante than the little red radishes.

What are you conveying with the wide open mouth? Are you yelling at Betty?

Betty doesn't like the white radishes. According to her, they are hotter than the red ones and they bother her haital hernia. That leaves them to me.

The picture of me is an attempt to convey my astonishment that she's picking things so small and to be silly. I was not yelling at her. I wouldn't do that over something so trivial.

How were the premature radishes?

It is about time for us to prepare for our fall garden. The corn here has been harvested for a month. The grass stopped growing a month ago. The fall is much more pleasant here than the summer. Sometimes it goes into December or January before there is a freeze.

The half a radish I got was really good. Betty liked the rest.

It's been raining for the last two days and the temperature is dropping. It's supposed to get down to 45 degrees tonight. I can't imagine a growing season as long as you have.

I seem to be addicted to growing a garden. I have had a lot of things out of my garden, but I never have enough tomatoes or cucumbers. I've had a lot of squash and many pumpkins that that were too early for haloween, oh, well. My onions were really good. I harvested 6 big watermelons. They were really good. I am learning some things. That watermelon came up from a seed from last year. It(the vine) grew the full length of my garden and still has small melons on it. Maybe I'll get more. Kent, Your garden has really grown fast. That was true in Colorado. Everything grew fast. I miss my Colorado garden.

Do you remember the year that Dad and you each had your own garden?

Here we go with the two garden myth again.
